Bullet Resistant Glass — UL 752 Levels 1–10

Bullet resistant glass (also called ballistic glass or bulletproof glass) is built from multiple laminated layers of glass and/or polycarbonate designed to absorb and stop the energy of a bullet without allowing penetration. Custom Glass Industries fabricates bullet resistant glazing across the full range of UL 752 protection levels, the industry standard for testing and rating architectural ballistic glazing in the United States.

No glazing product is "bulletproof" in an absolute sense — UL 752 levels describe what a specific assembly has been tested to stop, not a guarantee against every possible threat. Choosing the right level comes down to matching glazing to your facility's realistic threat profile.

Construction Types

CGI fabricates bullet resistant glazing in two constructions:

  • All Glass — Level 1 only. A fully laminated glass assembly with no polycarbonate layer.
  • Glass/Polycarbonate, No-Spall (NS) — Levels 2–10. A laminated glass and polycarbonate composite engineered so that no spall (glass fragments or polycarbonate debris) is released from the protected side on impact, even as the glass face is defeated by the round.

All products are U.L.-listed and tested to UL 752 standards.

Applications

  • Levels 1–3: banks, credit unions, pharmacies, convenience stores, ticket booths, cash-handling windows
  • Levels 4–6: police stations, courthouses, correctional facilities, high-risk retail
  • Levels 7–8: government buildings, military facilities, high-security command centers
  • Levels 9–10: embassies, high-threat government and defense applications

Guidelines

Construction All Glass (Level 1) or Glass/Polycarbonate No-Spall (Levels 2–10) Thickness Ranges from 7/8" (Level 2) up to 3" (Level 10) Listing U.L.-listed, tested per UL 752 Frames & Hardware Should be specified and rated to match the glazing's UL 752 level for a true ballistic-rated opening Custom Sizing Available; heavier/thicker assemblies (Level 6 and above) may require freight quotes and special handling Lead Time Higher levels involve thicker, multi-layer laminates — plan for longer fabrication times on Level 6 and above
