Colors & Shapes

SwitchIt Glass can be manufactured using various colored glass; for example bronze, green, blue, or grey. The panels can be made curved, notched, or in any shape, and may also have holes cut out.

Clear Edge

All switchable privacy panels will have a surrounding clear edge of approximately 3/16”. This will be hidden when fully framed. In semi-framed or butt-jointed panels, the clear edge will be visible.

Glass Location

Consideration must be given to where, within a building, the SwitchIt Glass panels are to be used. In some locations building codes may require toughened laminated glass be used, and/or double glazed.

SwitchIt Glass used on external walls: Sometimes extreme climatic conditions may require that the panels be double glazed units and incorporate Low-E glass.

Framing

SwitchIt Glass panels can be framed into most standard framing systems for single or double glazing. The only considerations are: Our minimum panel thickness is 3/8”. However, most orders are accommodated by 9/16” OA thickness.

Installation

SwitchIt Glass panels must be installed by qualified glaziers. A qualified electrician is also required for the wiring-in of the product. Failure to meet either of the above-mentioned stipulations will void the SwithIt Glass Warranty.

Glass Types

SwitchIt Glass panels can be constructed using the following glass types:
- Annealed (Float)
- Toughened/tempered
- Impact-resistant
- Low Emissivity
- Low Iron (Starphire, Optiwhite)
- Colored

Clarity

There is an inherant slight haze in switchable privacy glass in its clear “on” state; therefore, it is important to consider the ambient luminescenece and lighting near your SwitchIt Glass panel(s) in order to create optimum display conditions (in either “on” or “off” state).

Wet Location

SwitchIt Glass panels that are to be installed in wet areas such as bathrooms or shower cabinets will need to be sealed, the edges impervious to water, and fully framed. In many wet situations, standard warranty is reliant upon manufacturers approval of installation.
